Shadowing riders in a time trial

This year, the riders will take part in two individual time trials. The first one during the seventh stage : Nuits-Saint-Georges > Gevrey-Chambertin, on Friday 5 July. The second one on the final stage, Monaco > Nice, on Sunday 21 July.
During these stages, we offer the possibility to the Tour de France partners to follow a rider.

This experience will allow your guests to experience the race, a few meters from the rider being followed. On this edition of the Tour de France, a rotation per partner holding a blue and pink sticker will be set up during the time trials.
Each vehicle can follow a rider. To enjoy this experience in the best conditions and in complete safety, you will find below a few rules to follow.

What vehicles can shadow riders and what is the order of priority?

  1. Team vehicles
  2. Commissaires' and organisation vehicles (yellow banners)
  3. Press vehicles (green banners)
  4. Partner vehicles with blue and pink banners (pre-race banners)

What are the requirements to shadow and drive a vehicle behind a rider?

  • Holding an FFC licence
  • Having a pre-race vehicle (blue and pink banner) with Radio Tour enabled
  • Attending the meeting held in the morning of the time trial by the race direction of the Tour de France in the Tour de France space before the village opens
  • Putting the sticker "rider shadowing", handed out at the meeting, on the windscreen of the vehicle
  • Choosing the rider you want to follow and inform the person from the organisation, who will approve or reject your choice

Time trial safety rules

  • Turn on Radio Tour and get attention to it
  • The vehicles of sports directors, commissaires and race management always have priority
  • As soon as a rider who is catching up with you is 100m from your vehicle you must park safely and with common sense to let him pass
  • Never overtake the rider being followed: if he is caught or overtakes another competitor, you must start/stay behind the overtaken rider
  • Do not stop on the course with the intention of following another runner
  • The organisation may be required for sporting or safety reasons to change your position before departure.

The rotations during these two stages :

  • Nuits-Saint-Georges > Gevrey-Chambertin : all pre-race partner cars with a blue and pink sticker will be able to follow a rider. Allow between 50 minutes and 1 hour for a rotation. -
  • Monaco > Nice : all the major partners' pre-race vehicles will be able to follow a rider. For official partners, media, technical and official suppliers, only one pre-race vehicle per brand will be able to follow a rider due to the winding and narrow roads on this stage. Without accompaniment, allow 1 hour 45 minutes for a rotation.

If you have any questions about this system, please do not hesitate to contact your A.S.O. partner account manager, who will be able to advise you.
