They are from Frankfurt, London and Avignon and last May all three sent in their application to become the official Tour de France Digital Reporters. Three weeks later, Julien, Tom and Sarah were selected by the A.S.O. jury to live out their dream: experience the Tour from the inside. Each has their speciality: while Julien is an outstanding videographer, Tom excels in storytelling and Sarah the photographer has a unique eye. Complemented and supervised by Magalie, who is a journalist and film maker, our three Digital Reporters began their mission on June 29 in Düsseldorf. Armed with microphones, audio poles and smartphones, these young journalists began their adventure in Germany and shared the fervour of the people of Düsseldorf with the public during the presentation of the teams, the madness of a Kraftwerk concert dedicated to the Tour and the intensity of the press conferences right from the beginning of the Tour de France.
Another view of the Tour de France
After Germany then Belgium, the Digital Reporters delved into the French passion for the Tour de France. A stage in the Haribo Caravan, a helicopter ride above he peloton, a day in the life of the race motorcycle riders and a behind the scenes visit to the TV production crew that distributes video to 190 countries. Our three youngsters show the different sides of the race that constitutes the Tour de France. The peloton is also closely scrutinized as the youthful journalists expose the little secrets of the 198 riders and their teams. They discover what wines the riders prefer, the role of a mechanic and the importance of the chefs to the champions.
