The leading quarter is made of specialists. Jérémy Roy was the king of the breakaways in the past. Cesare Benedetti did it many times this year, at Tirreno-Adriatico (twice, which enabled him to win the intermediate sprints competition), Giro del Trentino, Liège-Bastogne-Liège, Tour of Norway and Critérium du Dauphiné. He has done more than 1000km in breakaway this year! Benedetti was with Alex Howes in the 29-man front group in stage 7 of the Tour de France. The American also rode at the front until he got 10km away from Utah Beach in stage 1.
