Pronounced “Saint-Min,” the town owes its notoriety to its two most prestigious progeny, brothers Louison and Jean Bobet, the elder of whom became the first rider to win three consecutive Tours de France between 1953 and 1955. As well as winning Paris-Nice in 1955, Jean also made a name for himself as a cycling journalist and writer. The town was also the birthplace of Frédéric Guesdon, the last French winner of Paris-Roubaix in 1997. In 2006, the stage won in Lorient by Sylvain Calzati started in Saint-Méen-le-Grand.
