New to the Tour route, Bollène has been a regular venue for bike races, hosting eight Paris-Nice finishes, the first in 1964 won by André Darrigade, the latest in 2021 and won in a bunch sprint by Ireland’s Sam Bennett. Of the towns in the Vaucluse, the one most often visited has been Carpentras, the birthplace of former French champion Éric Caritoux, a member of the club of French Grand Tour winners thanks to his success in the 1984 Vuelta.
