The Toulouse area has a long-standing connection with flying machines. In 1890, one of Muret’s famous sons, Clément Ader, is said to have launched the first motorised aircraft, known as the Éole. In a not dissimilar way, Muret has also served as a launchpad for the Tour’s racers on two occasions. The first was in 2015, when they headed for Rodez, where Greg Van Avermaet won his first stage. Then, in 2021, a stage from here into the Pyrenees ended with race leader Tadej Pogacar winning on the Col de Portet on his way to his second overall title.
