In 1997, the first of four finishes in the Hautes-Pyrénées town marked the start of a festival of success for French riders on the country’s national day. Wearing the polka-dot jersey, Laurent Brochard claimed his only success in a grand tour. Following in his wake, Cédric Vasseur managed to defend the Yellow Jersey, retaining it with an advantage of 13 seconds. Then, in 2020, another Frenchman, Nans Peters, proved to be the strongest from the breakaway group, winning at Loudenvielle on what was his first appearance at the Tour. In 2024, meanwhile, Tadej Pogacar was in yellow at the stage start in Loudenvielle and went on to win at Plateau de Beille.
